Sarpreet Singh took another step on his incredible football journey, becoming just the second New Zealander and also an Oceania player to play in Germany’s Bundesliga, reports Stuff.
The All Whites midfielder is not new to Vanuatu football fans and players as he has participated in the 2015 OFC U17 Championship in Samoa against players like Joseph Iaruel, Gregory Patrick, Ronaldo Wilkins and many others who were stopped by New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament.
Again in 2016 the 20 year old was in Luganville for the 2016 OFC U19 Championship and he played against most of the boys in the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup team, on the final of the tournament in Port Vila.
Today Sarpreet’s success is making waves in the Pacific and especially his country New Zealand as the second New Zealander after Rufer to play in Germany’s Bundesliga and also as an Oceania player, the debut is hailed as ‘phenomenal’ by Wynton Rufer.
In November he was in the Bayern Munich reserve team but few weeks on he substituted Brazilian Philippe Coutinho in the 82nd of the 6-1 match win over Werder Bremen.
“He came on after Thomas Muller and replaced Coutinho, it’s just brilliant,” said Rufer, who took particular delight at the fact Singh’s debut came against his former club Werder Bremen last weekend.
“It’s awesome story for all the young kids here who are dreaming. It’s possible.”
