The Port Villa Football Association (PVFA) in Vanuatu has made an exciting announcement, revealing the appointment of Solomon Islands’ national U19 Coach, Jerry Sam, for North Efate Football Club (FC) this season.
PVFA’s statement confirmed the appointment, extending a warm welcome to the former head coach of Honiara City FC.
Furthermore, North Efate United FC has secured the services of former Papua New Guinea (PNG) Hekari FC head coach, Jerry Allen, for the upcoming season. Allen’s notable achievement includes leading Hekari FC to become the first island nation to clinch victory in the OFC Champions League in 2010.
PVFA expressed their pleasure in welcoming Coach Jerry Allen, emphasizing his significant contribution to Hekari FC’s historic triumph in 2010.
During the championship, Hekari United emerged victorious over Waitakere United, marking the first time a non-New Zealander or Australian club claimed the OFC Champions League title. Led by stars like Kema Jack and Alick Maemae, Hekari secured a memorable 4-2 aggregate victory over Waitakere United.
Coach Allen’s prowess extends beyond the OFC Champions League triumph. He notably guided Telekom Super League (TSL) debutants, Waneagu United FC, to a commendable third-place finish in the 2021–2022 season. Additionally, his leadership saw him appointed as the national U19 head coach for the OFC U-19 championship in Tahiti and the 2023 U20 World Cup qualifying tournament.
Although the team under Coach Allen’s guidance reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, they faced a narrow defeat against New Caledonia, ending their journey with a 1-0 loss at Stade Pater Stadium.
Last season, Coach Allen demonstrated his coaching prowess by leading Honiara City FC to a significant improvement, elevating the team from eighth place in the 2022–23 season to a commendable fourth place in the 2023–24 season.
