Joe Iati: 2011 VFF cup winner and Nalkutan legend dies aged 40

2011 Vanuatu Football Federation Cup winner and Nalkutan legend Joe Iati born 29 December 1978 passed away on 22 December 2019 on his home island in Tanna at age 40.

He coached Nalkutan football club from Tafea Football Association in 2011 to become the first team outside Port Vila to win VFF cup since 1980.

Joe helped Nalkutan qualify in the 2016 VFF National Super League to win a spot in the Oceania Champions League in 2018.

He became Nalkutan’s goalkeeper coach at the 2018 OFC Champions League under coach Moise Poida and he helped Nalkutan won their pool games against Lae City FC (4-1), Tupapa Maraerenga FC (4-0) and Ba FC (1-0) and lost their quarter final match against Marist FC of Solomon Islands.

Vanuatu Football Federation sends their condolences to late Joe Iati’s friends and relatives in Port Vila and on Tanna Island.
