Jordy Tasip and Walter Leoru Begin Pro Chapter in New Zealand

The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) is proud to announce that two of our national stars, Jordy Tasip and Walter Leoru, have officially joined Christchurch United FC for the remainder of the 2025 season. Their move marks the first milestone in a newly established partnership between VFF and the New Zealand-based club.

Jordy Tasip, a full Vanuatu international, made headlines recently after scoring against New Zealand during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. With 10 international caps and a standout 2023 season at Auckland City FC, Jordy brings attacking creativity, international experience, and goal-scoring firepower to the Rams’ frontline.

Joining him is Walter Leoru, a dynamic forward who rose to prominence after winning the Golden Boot in the 2024 VFF Champions League. Leoru also played a pivotal role in leading Police FC to three regional titles and was the top scorer in the Vanuatu national competition last year.

Both players have already arrived in Christchurch and are training with the CUFC First Team. According to reports from the club, they are adjusting well—both to the squad and to the famously cooler climate of the South Island.

VFF President Lambert Maltock hailed the transfer as a proud moment for Vanuatu football:

“They are both wonderful players. It has been a long-time dream of our country to have a proper pathway beyond the borders of our shores, and we hope that can now come to fruition.”

This partnership with Christchurch United opens doors for more Vanuatu players to explore professional opportunities abroad, while also strengthening development links between Vanuatu and New Zealand clubs.

The VFF extends its congratulations to Jordy and Walter and wishes them every success in this next chapter of their football journey.
