MALTOCK CALLS ON LUGANVILLE LOC TO PRIORITIZE PLAYING FIELDS

VFF and OFC President Lambert Maltock has emphasized the importance of prioritizing the preparation of playing and training fields ahead of the upcoming May OFC Champions League. His remarks came after engaging in discussions with OFC CM Michael Song and LOC members in Luganville this week.

While acknowledging the cooperation and collaboration among various stakeholders, including technical experts from different government departments in Luganville, Maltock highlighted the advice and comments shared by OFC Competition Manager Michael Song during their meetings. Based on this input, he urged the team to concentrate on ensuring the playing and training fields meet the required standards.

Maltock expressed appreciation for the infrastructural developments surrounding the stadium, such as road construction and plans to tar-seal the access routes. However, he stressed that the utmost energy should be dedicated to bringing the playing and training fields to the necessary standards and conditions.

“With limited time remaining, we must align our focus. I have full confidence that we can accomplish the task of preparing the facilities on time, but we must prioritize and commit to it. The condition of the playing field should be our top priority at the moment,” stated Maltock.

Luganville is set to host the OFC Champions League Group A matches, featuring Auckland City from New Zealand, Solomon Warriors from the Solomon Islands, Lupe FC from Samoa, and Tiga Sports from New Caledonia. The thrilling competition will kick off at the Luganville Soccer City Stadium on 14 May 2023.

Renowned for its fervent football culture, Luganville has not only produced passionate football enthusiasts but has also nurtured top players who now excel in premier division clubs in Port Vila, testament to the town’s strong development programs.

As the countdown to the tournament continues, the call to prioritize the playing fields serves as a rallying cry for the Luganville LOC to ensure optimal conditions for an outstanding OFC Champions League experience.
