Successful Efate WFL Taskforce Meeting Paves the Way for Women’s Football Tournament

Port Vila, 18th July 2023 – The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) recently held a productive Efate Women’s Football League (WFL) Taskforce Meeting at the VFF Office, which saw key stakeholders come together to plan and organize an exciting women’s football tournament. The meeting, held on 14th July, was attended by prominent figures, including Robert Calvo and Leinasei Simon, who contributed valuable insights and ideas who plans to make the event a success.

During the meeting, the participants delved into various crucial topics, addressing tasks and desired outcomes for the upcoming Efate WFL. The registration process was a primary focus, and the team approved the registration guidelines and checklist. With meticulous planning, they agreed to have 24 teams, with each team comprising 12 players, and a maximum of 4 National Representatives. The teams will be divided into 8 pools, six located in Port Vila and two in North Efate.

The VFF Media has taken the lead in assisting with registration posters, making sure the news reaches potential participants and fans alike through social media, radio, and newspaper promotions. Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the significance of online team registration, streamlining the process and engaging players efficiently.

For the tournament, the VFF Freshwater Stadium was booked as the preferred venue for the event, with the plan to use the Academy for the knockout stage if needed. The committee is also seeking sponsorship and securing the necessary budget to ensure a well-organized and memorable event.

The meeting took a holistic approach, addressing other essential aspects, such as the Referee Workshop and Coaching Course. The participants agreed to set up a Women’s Football Referee Committee and hold a workshop on 19th August. Coaches and referees affiliated with each team will attend the workshop, with the goal of enhancing the overall quality of the tournament.

As for the coaching course, the meeting decided to hold two workshops: a coaching awareness workshop and an actual coaching course. Yalou Robert, an experienced facilitator, will lead the awareness workshop on 19th August, while the exact date for the coaching course will depend on the return from the OFC’s “This is How we Football” program.

The VFF’s focus on women’s football development was evident throughout the meeting. To encourage active participation and promote fair play, the committee agreed to award cash prizes and trophies for the top three teams and individual awards for the Best Player and Best Goalkeeper. The Meeting also assured that the venue will be equipped with all necessary facilities for the players’ convenience.

With the Efate WFL tournament expected to last for a 7-week period, the committee members expressed their enthusiasm for hosting a successful and exciting event. The next task force meeting is scheduled for Friday, 21st July, during which further progress updates and planning will take place.

This initiative highlights Vanuatu’s commitment to the growth and empowerment of women in sports and reflects the nation’s dedication to fostering unity, inclusivity, and excellence through football. As preparations move forward, all eyes are on the upcoming Efate WFL, promising an exhilarating celebration of women’s football in the region.
