Tahiti’s Eddy Kaspard Embraces Family and Heritage Ahead of Semi-Finals

Tahiti’s Eddy Kaspard, a defensive midfielder in their national football squad, arrived in Port Vila today amidst a heartfelt reunion with his Ni-Vanuatu relatives, highlighting his deep ties to the island nation.

Eddy, aged 23, holds a unique blend of cultural heritage. Born to a Tahitian mother and a father, Abet Kaspard Tahi, from Laone village in north Pentecost, Vanuatu, Eddy’s visit marks a meaningful return to his paternal roots. His father, a former footballer of local renown, shares a storied history with Nato Taiwia, a fellow footballer and contemporary from their playing days on Vanuatu’s national team.

Welcomed warmly at the airport by jubilant relatives, including his younger cousin Collins Brown, current Coach for Penama FC, Eddy’s arrival was a moment of familial pride and celebration. Having first visited Vanuatu as an infant, Eddy now returns as a young athlete representing Tahiti on the international stage.

His presence not only underscores the familial bonds that transcend borders but also deepens the cultural exchange between Vanuatu and Tahiti, emphasizing the unifying power of sport.

As Eddy and the Tahitian team gear up for their crucial semi-final encounter against New Zealand on Thursday, the support and encouragement from his extended family in Vanuatu serve as a poignant reminder of the personal and cultural significance of this tournament.
