Vanuatu Academy FC dubbed as the ‘Academy’ in Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) Second Division Championship notches third win of the season.
The Academy pulled off a brilliant start in the game against Kings United FC at Port Vila’s Municipal Stadium Monday 30 November 2020. First half, it was all Academy, beating Kings United FC to the scoresheet with 2 goals.
Academy’s Jordan Nirua scored the opener on the 30 minute mark, his first goal of this season. And Nicky Aru scored his fourth goal of the season on the 44 minute mark to give Academy the 2-0 lead ahead of half time.

Kings United FC came back in the second half with more chances for goal. It was Joshua Hinnkorman for Kings on the 60 minute mark, who got his name on the scoresheet after delivering a blasting long range goal past Academy keeper, Jean-Dennis Kapalu. The match then became an all-Kings game with solid defense and onslaught of attacks looking for an equalizer but were denied the advantage. Kali Langa received a red card from referee Alick Lukai for a second offense and was sent off the field, leaving Kings United unable to level score.
The Academy had clinched a 2-1 victory. Coached by Vanuatu’s former international and National Team Assistant Coach Francois Sakama, the Academy racked up 9 points from three consecutive wins and a goal difference of +9. Coach Sakama now looks to enhance the Academy’s game strategies to maintain performance in the remaining league challenge.
Meanwhile VFF Technical Director Mr. Peter Takaro says league games exposure is what’s important for the young Academy FC.
“Our goal is to allow the league games competition to teach our boys on field following their weekly trainings.”, says Mr. Takaro.
“It’s part of their ongoing training, to test if they could apply what they learn in real games. It’s meant to help them become more mature mentally, and physically as we progress.”, he added.
“We are happy with our boys’ improvement and thank all second division clubs in Port Vila Football Association League for coming out each week to give Vanuatu Academy FC the competition they need”, Mr. Takaro concluded.
The Academy plays second division newcomer AS Tewalu FC in its fourth championship match at Port Vila’s Kawenu field Saturday 5 November, 2020, at 1 p.m.
