In a closely contested match, the Vanuatu Gideons Futsal Team suffered a narrow 4-5 defeat against the Solomon Islands in their second encounter today. The game remained deadlocked at 4-4 until the Kurukurus managed to secure the winning goal a mere eight seconds before the final whistle.
Despite the loss, VFF President Lambert Maltock expressed his admiration for the Gideons’ performance against a seasoned opponent. “Charlie Otainau, one of the most experienced futsal players in Melanesia, scored the crucial goal,” President Maltock remarked, acknowledging the contribution of the skilled Vanuatu athlete. He further added, “Our team has shown remarkable progress in our futsal development.”
Meanwhile, the Vanuatu team had yet another reason to celebrate as one of their players claimed the coveted “Player of the Match” title in the Vanuatu versus Solomon Islands game. This remarkable achievement marked the second consecutive award for the Vanuatu squad, following their victory in the tournament’s opening match against Fiji, where Rhydley Napau secured the first award. Sandy Masau emerged as the standout player in today’s intense match.
