(Port Vila 30 January 2023 ) – The 2023 edition of the Vanuatu Football Federation Champions League is already locked in to kick off on Wednesday 1 February.
The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Tomker Netvunei has officiated the start of the two week tournament in a formal ceremony on Friday 27 January. Those present for the ceremony included those Provincial Football Association Presidents who have traveled to Port Vila with their champions clubs.
The VFF Champions League, which is scheduled to run from 1 through 11 February, will be played at the new VFF football ground at Fresh Water. Eight champions teams from the eight VFF member football associations are already in the capital city, and already their respective communities are being encouraged to organize and to support their home teams during the tournament.
The winners of the 2023 VFF Champions League will represent Vanuatu in the OFC Champions League. According to the format, the two top teams out of the VFF Champions League will have to play a two leg challenge, with the first match to be played on 25 February. The winners of the home and away match series will be the team to represent VFF in what is now called the OFC Champions League Centralized Tournament.
The OFC Centralized Tournament will be hosted by VFF, with the matches to be played in Port Vila and Luganville, from 14 to 27 May 2023.
The 2023 VFF Champions League will feature Wings FC (Tafea FA), Ifira Black Birds (Port Vila FA), Eraniau FC (Shefa FA), Police FC (Malampa FA), Arato FC (Penama FA), Sia Raga (Luganville FA), Patvuti FC (Shefa FA) and Rainbow FC (Torba FA).
