The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) and the National Sports Council (NSC) have made significant progress by reaching an agreement in principle to collaborate on the maintenance and utilization of the indoor sporting facility at Korman Stadium.
This landmark cooperation will facilitate the training of the national Futsal team at the Korman indoor facility, as well as enable VFF to host international futsal tournaments there. The breakthrough was achieved during a productive lunch meeting held in Port Vila on Thursday, April 27, between the VFF Technical Department and Trevor Toka, the Chief Executive Officer of the NSC.
Representing the VFF Technical Department at the meeting were Technical Director Peter Takaro, VFF Futsal Development Officer/Coach Ben Hungai, Coach Emerson Alcantara, and OFC Futsal Instructor Juliano Schmeling, who is currently conducting an OFC Senior Futsal C License Course in Port Vila.
The meeting emphasized the mutual need for collaboration in the development of Futsal in Vanuatu, with a particular focus on the two parties working together for the benefit of the sport. One of the key agreements reached was for VFF to assist in installing netting behind both ends of the court, preventing the ball from bouncing off the walls.
Furthermore, it was agreed that the national futsal team would have access to the Korman indoor court for their training sessions, while VFF would have the opportunity to host international tournaments in the facility.
This positive outcome has paved the way for Vanuatu to host the prestigious 2024 Melanesian Futsal Cup, demonstrating the country’s commitment to the development and promotion of Futsal on the regional stage.
The VFF expressed their satisfaction with the meeting’s results, extending their gratitude to CEO Toka for his understanding and willingness to cooperate in advancing Futsal in Vanuatu. With this collaboration, the stage is set for further progress and success in the sport, benefiting both players and fans alike.
