VFF Goalkeeper coaches happy with National league performances

The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) National League competition had seen VFF deploying its goalkeeper coaches as well to assist few Member Associations (MAs) during preparations.

VFF Goalkeeper coaches deployed were coach Obed Jimmy, who assisted Torba FA, coach Wilson Marango, with Shefa FA and coach Ken Kanegai assisting Tafea FA.

Coach Jimmy said that there is a huge difference in this year’s edition compared to last year’s, as goalkeepers continue to prove their worth and skills within the competition adding that all MA goalkeepers have improved a lot in this competition.

He believes that all MAs have the capacity to produce national goalkeepers, stating that with right trainings provided, next year’s competition would be a competitive one.

Shefa FA GK coach, Wilson Marango stated that goal keeping is a fundamental tool for a soccer team. Mr Marango said that when a team fails to defend his opponents, the goalkeeper is the last player standing however a lot of players today do not find interest in this position.

He said that he has noticed an increase in goal keeping performances for each MAs and also within the Shefa team as well. He added that there a lot of skillful goal keepers across all MAs however scouting opportunities were not effective.

Caoch Marango believes that with trainings provided during the last National league edition, he believes Shefa FA will continue to provide competitive challenges as well in the years to come. He further appealed to interested individuals to come over as VFF Is prepared to assist in goal keeping development trainings as well.

Tafea GK coach, Ken Kanegai said that this edition he has also seen a great improvement and performance from the TFA goal keepers. He said they have great skills but need few tips to keep their head in the game. He said that TFA is strong team with great minds to adjust their game plan on field and believe that next year’s competition will be a tough and challenging one as well.

He mentioned that VFF also has plans on conducting goal keeping trainings to other MAs as well and hopefully once operational plans is approved by the VFF executive, then programs will roll out. Mr Kanegai stated that a team may be strong and fit but the goalkeeper is always the backbone of a soccer team.
