VFF Podcast Episode 2: VFF President unveils new vision

VFF President Lambert Maltock unveils new vision for Vanuatu football last week in a press conference at VASANOC House in Port Vila.

The renovated VFF Head Office will now accommodate the full operation of a football institution like any world football institution.

“I have urged my staff to step up everything to reflect the new design and start working in the new building with a new spirit”, Maltock said.

“New spirit, new ideas, new behavior at work and old habits and attitude we cannot accommodate in the new VFF House”.

“We also plan to hire new staff in Media and Public Relations”, he said.

Maltock also reveals plans to create a community football academy at Freswota for Port Vila.

He also disclosed the VFF Executive plan for Shefa Football Association to use the new Freswota Stadium in complimenting what Port Vila Football Association is doing, hosting one of the top leagues in the region.

“We encourage Shefa League to trim out other divisions and to focus only on premiere division and other youth categories giving more chances to players play and improve skills towards our 2026 goal”, he said.

“I am surprised in every VFF Youth League Competitions, the rural teams who lack good training facilities are snatching away the trophies, for instance Penama Province have been U-17 Champions in three consecutive tournaments and Tafea Province in the U-15 category”.

“Funds invested in Port Vila and Luganville and the efforts do not yield good results therefore the new initiative with Shefa football is aimed to produce more of our elite players and for 2026 goal”.

“We will have two academies now in Shefa Province, the Teouma Academy and Freswota Academy”, President Maltock reiterated.

Maltock said Freswota Academy will be an open community school of football.

“I want to see Freswota Academy fulfil the dreams of the people of Vanuatu”.

“It must reach out, touch and inspire every kid in the streets of Port Vila and also designed to give hope and a second chance to those who failed”, Maltock concluded.

The new vision and strategy aims to see Vanuatu qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
